Many poker industry insiders consider the World Poker Tour (WPT) a worthy rival of the highly popular (World Series of Poker WSOP) competition. They say, and we certainly agree, that WPT events are as exciting, challenging and rewarding as the ones staged by WSOP organizers. As it turned out, some of Hollywood's most shining and gifted stars happen to agree as well. Indeed, the World Poker Tour provides poker enthusiasts with a great opportunity to both hone and test their gaming skills. 1. Drew Carrey- 49-year-old comedian Drew Carrey has his own trademark, the Buddy Holly style glasses. Although Carrey went through a Lasik surgery to improve his vision, he continues wearing his trademark glasses as a prop. Carry, an Ohio native, achieved public recognition after launching the "Drew Carrey Show." Another prominent show that gained Carrey even further popularity is "Whose Line Is It Anyway?," on which the talented actor served both as the host and as one of the participants. He took part in the WPT show's second season, finished fifth and collected $2,000.
2. Jason Alexander- The actor behind Seinfeld's brilliant Gerorge Costanza character is Jason Alexander, born Jason Scott Greenspan. 48-year-old Alexander received a Tony Award for his performance as a leading actor in Jerome Robbins' musical 'Broadway.' Alexander landed another memorable role as Philip Stuckey, the obnoxious business partner of Richard Gere in the 1991's hit 'Pretty Woman.' Alexander is married and has two sons. Although he is a staunch poker player and makes an occasional appearance on the WPT show, his current WPT winnings are unspecified.
3. Jack Black- Born Thomas J. Black, Jr., Black has many facets: an actor, a musician and a comedian. Black was brought up in the Jewish religion. At the onset of his career, Black had minor roles in several popular shows, such as 'Life Goes On' and 'Northern Exposure.' He was later offered small roles in a number of hits, including the' Cable Guy,' 'Shallow Ha,' 'Waterworld' and 'I still Know What You Did Last Summer.' His career soon led to leading roles in films such as 'King Kong' and 'Orange County.' In 2006, Black hosted the 2006 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and the MTV video music awards. Black is only know beginning his poker career. Will he use his killer humor to knock out his opponents?
4. Shannon Elizabeth- 34-year-old Shannon Elizabeth's surname is Fadal. The prominent actress worked as a model before she began her acting career. Elizabeth played in several low-budget movies, including Dish Dogs and Jack Frost. She caught the public's attention with her nude scene in 1999's blockbuster 'American Pie.' Later on she appeared in several important Hollywood pictures, such as 'Tomcats.' Elizabeth was once quoted as as saying that poker is her "second career." In 2007, she reached the semi-finals of the NBC National Heads-UP Poker Competition. Today, she can be found playing poker at Full Tilt Poker, a highly popular online poker destination.
5. Joshua Morrow- Morrow was born in Juneau, Alaska, 1975. He is best known for his portrayal of Nicholas Newman on the popular soap opera 'The Young and the Restless.' He joined the show back in 1994. In 2001, Morrow married Tobe Keeney, his longtime girlfriend. They now have two sons. He is a member of a pop group, called 3 Deep. He can frequently be spotted at different WPT events. He is said to donate his winnings to The V Foundation for Cancer Research charity. In 2006, he was nominated for an Emmy in the 'Outstanding Supporting Actor' category. Morrow is an ardent Texas Hold 'em poker lover, who plays very aggressively at the tables.
6. Mimi Rogers- Born Miriam Spickler in 1956, Rogers is a prominent Hollywood actress with over twenty years of acting experience. She is of Christian and Jewish descend. Almost seven years after divorcing her first husband, Jim Rogers, in 1980, she married popular actor Tom Cruise. They split in 1990. Her first major role was alongside Tom Berenger in "Someone to Watch Over Me" (1987). Her Hollywood appearances include "Lost in Space" (1998) and the hit TV series The X-Files (1998-1999). Widely known for her incredible physical appearance, Rogers participated in several films that required full nudity, such as "Full Body Massage" (1995). Today, the actress is married to producer Chris Ciaffa with who she has two children. Playing poker since her teenage years, Rogers is an avid poker player. She is a frequent visitor to HollywoodPoker.com, a popular online poker room.
7. Fred Savage- Born in Chicago in 1976, Fred Savage is best known as the protagonist of the highly celebrated "The Wonder Years" TV show. At the age of twelve, Savage became the youngest performer ever to become nominated for an Emmy as a leading actor. Savage kicked off his acting career at the tender age of four and made his first acting debut in the film "Dinosaur." Since then he appeared in numerous TV shows, including 'Working' and 'Crumbs.' Savage is an ardent poker player. He was spotted playing poker in WPT show's Season II. Finishing second, he took home a cool $5,000.
8. James Woods- 60-year-old James Woods is a three-time Emmy Award winning American actor. Considered by many a remarkable performer Woods boasts an incredibly rich acting career. He was nominated for an Academy Award twice: the first one in the Best Actor category in 'Salvador' (1987), and the second time in the Best Supporting Actor category in 'Ghosts of Mississippi (1996). In addition, he gained positive critical review for his voice work in Disney's 'Hercules.' Woods was once reported as saying that his favorite role was of gangster Max in 'Once Upon a Time in America' (1984). In 2006, Woods played alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. in the thriller 'End Game.' Also in 2006, he played the character of Mike Toreno in 'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.' That same year, Woods finished in the 24th place at the L.A. Poker Classic for $40,000. Woods has an endorsement contract with online poker room Hollywood Poker, where can be found playing on a regular basis.
9. Jennifer Tilly- Tilly was born Jennifer Chan in LA in 1958. She first called the public's attention portraying the character of Blanche 'Monica' Moran in the 1989 movie 'The Fabolous Baker Boys.' Tilly was nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of a really bad actress in 1994's movie 'Bullets over Broadway.' In 2000, Tilly participated in the film 'Dancing at the Blue Iguana' in which she played a stripper. She has also appeared in several theatrical productions, such as 'One Shoe Off,' for her performance in which she won a Theater World Award. In 2005, Tilly nabbed a WSOP bracelet in the Ladies' No-Limit Texas Hold 'em tournament, beating 600 other event participants. On the poker circuit she is known as "The Unabombshell."
10. Cindy Margolis- Born in L.A. California, 42-year-old Cynthia Margolis is of Jewish heritage. At the beginning of her career as a prominent celeb, Margolis appeared in ads for such top companies as Reebok, Vidal Sassoon and Sunkist. Then, the busty lady moved on to TV appearances on popular shows, including 'Married with Children' (1987), 'Baywatch' (1989) and 'Head Over Heels' (1997). She was crowned Yahoo! Internet Life magazine's "Queen of the Internet" from 1996-1999. In 2006, Margolis posed nude for Playboy and the magazine published her pictorial in its December issue. That same year, Margolis agreed to become a representative of online poker room Tropical Poker. Today, she is one of the hottest celebs on the poker circuit. She has made multiple appearances at the most prestigious poker competitions, including the 2007 WSOP.
