Claim to prohibit online gambling in Minnesota has been recalled
State officials have abandoned their attempt, at least for now, to prevent Minnesotans from gambling online.
The Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMEGA) filed suit last month in federal court in Minneapolis, seeking to prevent the state from enforcing its order. They consider the push a violation of federal commerce and free-speech protection.
John Willems, director of the department's Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division (AGED), will withdraw the letters he sent in April to 11 ISPs including Comcast, Verizon Wireless, and AT&T.
Nevertheless, Andy Skoogmann, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, stated: "We have not folded our hand".He said he expects new strategies for regulating Internet gambling to emerge.
