A New York woman who admitted to robbing at gunpoint a high-roller poker game was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison. 28-year-old Jacqueline Dennis robbed her playmates of as much as $27,000 in cash in November 2007. According to court papers, she will spend at least a decade behind bars.
Joseph K. Reeder, Dennis' defense attorney, was reported as saying that he intended to file an appeal in an attempt to cut his client's years in jail. The poker game robber has been held under custody ever since her initial arrest in 2007 after failing to make her $40,000 bail.
As part of the plea agreement, Dennis will repay the cash she robbed. She had told the authorities that she spent the stolen poker money in Atlantic City and New York mainly on drugs. The robber was on the run for almost two weeks before apprehended by police. While in court, Dennis cried and apologized for the crime she had committed.
